Geocache Description:

Part of the Church Micro series of caches.

The current church of St Julius and St Aaron in Llanharan was built in 1858. The register of baptism for the parish dates back to 1615 and the earlier building's main aisle is actually the current path through the modern churchyard.

St Julius and St Aaron were Roman Legionaries who were martyred at Caerleon during the religious persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian in AD 304. Their feast day is celebrated on July 1st.

The current church, although not boasting the many centuries of history that others can claim, is still an impressive village place of worship and regularly has full congregations.

On a personal note, Mr Rollwrong was an altar server here in his formative years and his father was the verger for three decades.

In a small, but growing village such as Llanharan, where a number of chapels have closed over the past couple of decades, it is reassuring to know that this well loved place of worship is still thriving at the heart of the community.

The roads are fairly narrow and busy around the church so the best place to park would be in the small car parking area directly across the main road from the shops on Llanharan square.

The parking area has a little story of its own and doesn't belong to the building it adjoins. It is actually common land given to the village by the squire of Llanharan House early in the 20th century.

You are looking for a 35mm film container hidden a little way up from the church. This road can be busy, so be careful in your hunting!

If anyone would like to expand this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. There is also a Church Micro Stats page found via the Bookmark list.

Congratulations to the RhonddaRoamers for being FTF (and at such a late hour!)
