Geocache Description:

The clue gives it away so only use if you need it. We have Motorway Mayhem and we have A-Road Anarchy. Now a series for public transport users! SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick cache-and-dashes at train stations. There is no need to enter the station to access the cache.

Polegate railway station serves Polegate in East Sussex, England. It is on the East Coastway Line, and train services are provided by Southern.

The first station opened in 1846 and was on the site on the present station. It then became a junction station in 1849 when a branch diverging eastwards to Hailsham was opened. In 1881 the second station was opened in connection with the construction of a new westward facing line to Hailsham and the Cuckoo Line. The East Coastway line through Polegate was electrified in 1935 bringing in faster more frequent services. In 1965 the Cuckoo line north of Hailsham was closed followed in 1968 by complete closure of the branch to Hailsham. Around 1970 the spur line to Pevensey (Stone Cross Junction) was closed and once extensive goods sidings were gradually closed and removed. The current building is the third station to be built in Polegate and was completed in 1986, and opened by Ian Gow in 1987. This station is situated on the site of the first one which was closed in 1881 when the second station was opened about 440 yards towards Eastbourne and had four platforms. The former station building has now been converted into a pub/restaurant and at track level there are some sections of the platforms.

As you drive into Polegate station there is a small car park on the left before you get to the main one and it's free for 3 hours. Take the time to look at the memorial to children who have lost the battle against cancer on the little green next to the station; it's very poignant.

The cache is a 20ml medical container at ground level on public land south of the railway station. Lots of muggles around so stealth is a must. Please replace exactly where found.

Cache contains a FTF badge.
