bílily a symbol rucní brzdy (cuba-vozkové casto potahovali rukojet
trestalo.
"Braking stone" was one from the oldest roadmarks. It warned
before the road with sudden downslope, where was necessary to start
braking the horse pulled carriage to avoid injury or collision,
even death. Such accidents often happened, and horses were badly
injured by running into carriage shaft, intensified by the speed of
the weight of the carriage itself.
Most braking stone markers were average size of the human hieght
and were painted white, having the symbol of hand brake on it.(So
called 'the bitch' because they often use dog's forepaw skin for a
cover on the lever.) Symbol was painted in black to ensure good
contrast visibility from the distance. They were placed on the left
side of the road, because that's where they earlier drove.
Every village took care of the braking stones on their territory
and breaking them was prohibited by the law.
