Geocache Description:

Visit this cache if you want to do a short but nice trail, almost all downhill from the village of Prazeres to Paul do Mar, along the coast. The descent is made through agricultural terraces, supported by stone walls. Distance: 1.8 km Time: 1h 20m Altitude: 535 m Minimum height: 35 m Home: Prazeres End: Paul do Mar IMPORTANT. BeCarefull. DO NOT GO TO THE BRINK

The descent is made between the Assomadouro dos Prazeres and Paul do Mar, between the "poios" agriculture, supported by stone walls, formerly cultivated with cereals, but today, with the decline of agriculture, abandoned. Assomadouro is the name given to the place where we could see something interesting, is synonymous with gazebo. In fact, the view from here is superb as the beautiful panoramic views to the left, the tiny village of Jardim do Mar, or the right, Paul do Mar, are truly dazzling. Called "municipal path" is an example of the difficult access often traveled with heavy loads on their backs, but the only alternative shipping route, too expensive for many and impossible when the sea was raging. This trail, meandering through the hillside zigzag floor paved with small steps, is a genuine heritage and a testament to the isolation of populations and foremothers of the ingenious and arduous paths, built by the people, to overcome this isolation. The waterfalls and unique flora endemic to these elevations, as Massaroco da Rocha (Echium nervosum) and Figueira do Inferno (Euphorbia piscatoria), contribute to this trail is a true discovery. When at Paul do Mar be sure to explore this small town, the seashore and admire the great cliffs that surround it. Once an important fishing center, due to the abundance of fish, made in 1912, appeared an industry of canned tuna for export. You can still see remnants of the chimney of the factory and the salt pools, and the ingenuity of cane sugar. Visit also the area of the small fishing port with its typical fishing boats. IMPORTANT. BeCarefull. DO NOT GO TO THE BRINK
