There are many lovers' leaps around the world, but this cache is about the Central Valleys one and its insight to what the prehistoric valley was like.
The first thing we need to establish when viewing this formation is what it is made of. In this cache it is made of limestone. Limestone is a sedimentary rock that comes from the compacting of fossilized animal remains. This limestone came from the remains of sea creatures from when this was part of the Pacific ocean. As the sea creatures died their remains floated down to the bottom of the ocean and became buried. Some of them fossiled partially and were subjected to pressure from the earth itself. This caused the fossils to form into limestone. This location is unique because of the weathering on the formation.
This limestone lies on top of the sediments that formed the bottom of the ocean and this view of them were left here after the waters receded.
