Geocache Description:

Party at the Moon Tower #11
West 9th Street and Guadalupe

Once a popular form of lighting in the US and Europe, Austin is now home to the only remaining moonlight towers in the world. Between 1894 and 1895 there were 31 moon towers erected in Austin. The original carbon arc lamps used illuminated a circle approximately 3,000 feet in diameter with a blue-white light (The towers now use 6,400-watt mercury vapor bulbs). Sadly, just 15 moon towers remain today. They are now designated as official state archeological landmarks and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

This moon tower cache is located about a block away from the actual moon tower because of cache density rules (look north). The John Henry Faulk Central Library is located between GZ and the moon tower if you didn't already know. Close proximity to the fabulous central library also means there are lots of microfiche ogling mugglers about so use caution. Bring your own pen.

Congrads to adaman797! FTF!!!
