Castle Effiat belonged to Gilbert Antoine Coiffier Ruze, a friend of Richelieu, adviser to the king in 1625 and whose lands were set in marquis in 1627. He became Marshal of France in 1631. The Marquis of Effiat was the father of Cinq-Mars, who led the latest of many conspiracies against the powerful prime minister, Cardinal Richelieu. He designs for a major project linking Effiat planning, architecture, agriculture, communication networks, military and religious guidance. He plans to create a new town Effiat the geometric path, using renowned architects like Jacques Lemercier, Clement Métezeau and the king's gardener, André Mollet. The work was conducted in two seasons, from 1626 to 1628, then from 1630 to 1632 for the beautification of the castle, the building of a church, the college's chapel and a hospital. At his death, the work of the castle were prosecuted, but the city project was abandoned.
