Geocache Description:

A fun cache for those who love the great outdoors, located in the iSimangaliso Wetland park, a World Heritage site.

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park was listed as South Africa's first World Heritage Site in December 1999 in recognition of its unique global values. No other place has comparable ecological processes or the breathtaking natural beauty and biodeversity of iSimangaliso.

About 13 km North of St. Lucia in the iSimangaliso Park is Mission Rocks. This rocky shore is famous for the Mission station Reverend O Filing, a Norwegian missionary, establish amongst the dunes above this beautiful beach area in the late 1870’s.

The beach at Mission Rocks is a excellent picnic spot with some relaxing leisure time spend amongst the tidal pools- be sure to take a pair of goggles and peer into the gorgeous rock pools. Various marine mammals and reptiles can be observed frolicking amongst the white water.
All this is in the shadow of the majestical vegetated sand dune towering over the beaches of The Eastern Shores. There is a well signposted viewpoint at the top of the huge dune. The walk is not difficult and provides gorgeous views of this section of the park. The cache is not at the viewpoint, but its a short walk and we recommend spending the 10 extra minutes it will take you to get to the top.

The cache was a small, screw-top plastic container secured in a ziploc bag to protect it from the elements. It has now been replaced and is a 'Camo' Lock'nLock container. Starting contents include logbook, pencil and TB. As the area is visited by curious wildlife, please be sure to make sure the cache cannot be disturbed by the wildlife.
