Geocache Description:

This cache takes you halfway across the Paraná River to a beautiful island. Be sure to bring your swimsuit or trunks, some sunscreen and your beach towel and get ready to enjoy one of Rosario's top beach locations with a scenic view on the city's skyline included :-)

Especially during the insanely hot summer months December, January and February, the local "Rosarinos" appreciate the beaches, bars and other hangouts along the shore of the Paraná River. After work and even more so on weekends, these places are packed with people enjoying a chilled beer or the ever-present "mate" tea. While the city itself has some beaches to offer, the nicer ones are found on the island halfway across the river.

Unless you know someone who owns a boat, you will start your little GeoCaching adventure at the "La Fluvial" station (S 32°56.944' / W 060°37.623). If you come by car, you can park it here for free.

During the summer season, the little ferries depart every hour on every day of the week (check the "La Fluvial" website for schedules). The boat trip to the island and back will cost you 20 Pesos (December 2010).

Once you have reached the island, it is only about 150 m (492 feet) to the cache site.

The cache container is a little screw-top plastic thingy. It's waterproof and big enough for common trackable items. It holds a log and a cache note in Spanish. There is no pen, so be sure to bring your own!

I recommend to do this cache early on a weekday to avoid muggles!

Fun fact: technically speaking, the island belongs to the province of Entre Rios and not to Rosario and the Santa Fe province. So you can tick off one more province of Argentina on your travel agenda once you made it here ;-)
