Holmenkollen skijump


Holmenkollen skijump arena is one of the most famous and renowned cross contry skiing arena and ski jumping hills in the world. It has hosted 4 world championships (in 1930, 1966, 1982 and 2011), 1 olympic winter game (in 1952) and a long series of FIS world cup competitions in both ski jumping, cross contry skiing, biathlon and the nordic combined (jumping and cross contry skiing by the same athlete).

A brief history:
  • First official competition: January, 31st, 1892. 12.000 spectators. Record: 21.5 meters
  • Several rebuilds until 1952. For the winter olympics games, somewhere between 120.000-150.000 spectators showed up to see the competition.
  • Several new rebuilds for the FIS world championships in 1966 and 1982
  • In 2009, the old hill is completely removed for a full rebuild
  • New hill ready for the 2011 FIS world championship


Facts:
  • Most visited turist attraction in Norway
  • Current records for men and woman, respectively: 141 meters (Andreas Kofler, Austria) and 128 meters (Anette Sagen, Norway)
  • Design/architecht: JDS Architects (Belgium/Denmark)
  • The latest rebuild cost 1.8 billion NOK (approx $300 million)
