Join us in Salmon Arm, BC on July 9th 2011 for the
Shuswap Mass Cache Dash Event!
If you can attend...
Anyone is welcome to attend this event, free of charge. However, if
you are planning on attending, you must post a "Will Attend"
log stating your intention to come. Please also include in your
log the number of people in your geocaching party that will be
coming.

Salmon Arm is located approximately half-way between
Vancouver BC and Calgary AB along the Trans-Canada highway.
A
small but thriving town of nearly 20,000 residents, Salmon Arm's
population swells during the summer as a very popular destination
for visitors. With it's extensive trail systems and incredibly
scenic locations, Salmon Arm boasts a thriving geocaching community
and it's close proximity to the nearby geocaching hotspots of
Kamloops, Vernon and Kelowna make it a perfect geocaching
destination. There are over 1000 geocaches within 80km (50 miles)
of the event site, enough to keep even the most prolific geocachers
very busy!
Geocaches & Prizes
You can find the details of the all-day geocaching marathon to find
over 100 new geocaches specifically placed for this occasion in a
separate discussion, but the official event will get
started at 8:00am sharp at the listed coordinates.
At
the event, you will have the opportunity to sign the log book, view
or share trackables, meet & greet with other cachers. We will
also have some refreshments available and you can enter the prize
draw.
Meet & Greet
The event will get underway at 8:00am sharp, we have picked this
timeslot to allow for those communting in to make it in, while
still leaving you lots of time to go geocaching. This will also be
your chance to sign the event logbook, meet other cachers, swap
geocaching stories, and get the low-down on geocaches in the
area.
Refreshments
Thanks to sponsors, refreshments will be provided during the event
for your enjoyment. If you feel inclined to bring something then by
all means you're welcome to, but it's certainly not necessary.
Trackables
If
you collect trackables (or even if you just have a few that you've
picked up and like to bring along), please bring them along to show
at the event. If you have a sizable geocoin collection, please
print off a list of codes (or contact us and we'll make one up for
you) to make it easy on those wanting to log your trackables.
If
you've picked up any trackables in your travels, this event is a
good opportunity to pass them along to another cacher to move
along, or drop them in a local cache. So dust off those TB's and
coins - others want to see them!
Getting Here
If
you don't live too far away, you'll probably want to drive - after
all, you'll want to geocache in and around Salmon Arm. However, if
driving isn't an option for you, flying into Kelowna
International Airport is your best bet.
There are plenty of car rental options available (be sure to book
well in advance), the airport is located one hour and fifteen
minutes south of the event; just follow highway 97A through Vernon
to the 97B turnoff, and then all the way to the event grounds. Oh
and give yourself plenty of extra time, there's lots of geocaches
to get along the way!
At
the event grounds there are two locations to park: The canoe beach
parking area, and the overflow parking lot across the street. As
parking is limited, if you are staying at a Salmon Arm hotel,
campground or RV park, you may want to ask around and see if you
can carpool. Plus, this is a great way to make new geocaching
friends.
