Geocache Description:

Welcome to my favorite hangout spot in Rosario: The "Club Mitre" right at the shore of the Paraná River!

The cache container is a round plastic box containing a log book, a description in Spanish and a pencil. It's big enough for common travelbugs and coins.

The full name of this place is "Club Mitre de Pesca" - a Fishing Club named after Argentinas first president Bartolomé Mitre.

Some folks do actually still come here to do some fishing, but the vast majority of visitors are the local "Rosarinos", who use the free barbecue facilities to grill beef and sausages and to hang out with their families and friends for hours and hours.

Even though the area of "Club Mitre" is not that small really, many foreign visitors never notice it because of the steep wall separating the popular river promenade from the clubs open-air premises. This fact alone makes the "Club Mitre" a real insiders' tip!

The coordinates will lead you directly to the cache site, but to make it a little easier for you: just tell your taxi driver to drop you off at "Corrientes y Río". From here it's just a short walk to the entry of "Club Mitre". And from here, the elevator or stairs will bring you down all the way to river level.

I said earlier that using the facilities is free, but there is actually a small fee to pay when you enter. When I hid the cache in November 2010, the entry fee was just ARS 8.00 but now (December 2011) it's ARS 13.00 per person. This small fee covers the maintenance of the place, waste disposal by the staff etc.

If you want to do some fishing too, the fee is a little bit higher though (but from what I noticed as a non-fisherman, the fishes bite like crazy at this spot).

After you paid the fee and entered the "Club Mitre", you will see a bar and a restaurant at your left. There is also a roof-covered public barbecue area here which can be used on rainy days.

However, you should go right at this point and you will immediately notice the countless picnic tables with benches and the barbecue facilities I mentioned earlier. You can of course just quickly drop by to grab the cache, but I strongly recommend that you actually use this opportunity to meet the locals and to enjoy the awesome Argentine "Asado BBQ" at this beautiful and relaxed location.

If you don't have any local friends in Rosario accompanying you on your little caching adventure, don't be shy: just bring some beef or sausages and ask at any table if you can join the crowd. You can bring your own drinks too if you want, but there are fairly cheap drinks available at the nearby bar too and they also sell charcoal if you didn't bring any to cook your meat.

As for the cache, the coordinates are only pointing to the Club Mitre area, not to the cache itself! The little box is hidden somewhere between the fence and the river near what looks like ruins of a brick wall and some wooden poles sticking out of the water.

To retrieve the cache, be sure to come in the morning or afternoon. At night, the place is pretty crowded.
