Old forest fire lookout site
In the 1940’s a forest fire lookout 8X8’ cabin, Adirondack shelter stood on a 15 foot stump. It is not know how long the lookout was used for before it was abandoned. I tried to find the stump that the tower stood on but the top of the ridge was used for a rock pit and now is just a hole in the ground.
There is limited access to this cache. You will need to call the Weyerhaeuser Hot Line number at 1-866-636-6531 and navigate to the Mt. Saint Helens tree farm to find out what roads are open to drive on. The cache is locates off the 2500 road on the 2570 road North of the Green River. Make sure that you have a good map to navigate to the cache site. The roads are gravel all the way from when you leave Spirit Lake Highway and a good sturdy vehicle is advisable. 4 wheel drive during good weather is not needed but if you attempt it late in the year there possible could be snow on the way up. The cache sits at 2568 feet in elevation. There is not much of a view from here but the drive up has some nice views of the Green River and up to Vanson Peak, Goat Mountain, and Black Peak.
Make sure that you call the phone number for Weyerhaeuser before you try for this cache. There is a very limited time during the year that you can drive to the cache. It will be mostly during Hunting season that you can access the cache.
