Flugsanddüne Tegeler Forst
Durch den Bewuchs mit Kiefern, Laubbäumen, Krautpflanzen, Büschen und Gräsern wurden diese Wanderdünen inaktiv. Wie für Dünen typisch, findet sich Podsol, ein saurer, gebleichter Boden, auf dem angepasste Pflanzen wie Kiefern und Gräser wachsen können.
Charakteristisches Merkmal der Podsolierung ist die Verlagerung von Sesquioxiden in vertikaler Richtung. Durch Versauerung des Bodens werden dunkle Huminstoffe nach unten verlagert. Sinkt der pH-Wert eines Bodens in den sauren Bereich, werden Verbindungen der Nährstoffe mit den Bodenpartikeln gelöst und können mit dem Sickerwasser in tiefere Schichten verlagert werden. Podsole entstehen auf durchlässigen, Si-reichen Ausgangssubstraten mit niedrigen Ca- und Mg-Gehalten, wie etwa Granit, Gneis oder Sanden. Podsole weisen stets einen Podsol-
Auswaschungshorizont und einen Podsol-Anreicherungshorizont auf.
Die Berliner Forsten haben kürzlich ein neues Informations- und Erlebnisangebot gestaltet. Der alte Waldlehrpfad hat ein neues Gesicht und ergänzt nun die bisherigen Attraktionen mit dem benachbarten Wildgehege und dem nahen Waldspielplatz. So ist neben 28 informativen Schautafeln zu Themen rund um den Wald und seine Bewohner ein "Bodeneinschlag“ entstanden: eine Grube, an der sich die Struktur und Entwicklung des Waldbodens nachvollziehen lässt. Dieses anschaulich gestaltete Bodenprofil soll demnächst mit einer Informationstafel versehen werden.
Gemäß der Regeln für Earth Caches gibt es hier keinen Behälter zu finden. Logbedingung ist die Lösung der folgenden Aufgaben.
1. Ermittle die Höhe des Bodenprofils am „Bodeneinschlag“. Ein Bandmaß oder Zollstock ist sicher von Vorteil
2. Binnendünen werden auch Flugsandsedimentation genannt. Sedimente lassen sich nach ihrer Entstehung in drei Hauptgruppen unterteilen. Nenne die drei Hauptgruppen.
3. Bitte mache ein Foto von Dir und dem Bodenprofil am "Bodeneinschlag". Gerne kannst Du mehr Fotos von der schönen Flora und Fauna machen und im Log posten.

The Tegel Forest sand dunes
When the glacial valley formed its way in the last ice age carrying hardly any vegetation, the hills, or rather sand dunes of the Tegel Forest aggradated.They are the second largest dunes in the whole area Berlin / Brandenburg after south-east Berlins “Püttberge”. Over the years a natural cover formed by pines, broad leaved trees, bushes, grasses and herb plants brought the former wandering dunes to a stop.
Typically for dune areas, podzol is found here, a leached soil, usually ash-gray or whitish-grey in colour. The formation of podzol soils requires special climatic conditions, such as low temperatures and high precipitation. Podzol soils develop on fine-grained, lime-free sandy substrates. Indeed, they only appear at a few locations in Berlin forests; mainly at the northeast slopes of dunes in the Tegel forest or Köpeniks Püttberge. Plants such as pines and certain grasses have adapted themselves to grow in podzol soils. A characteristic feature of podzolification is the shifting of sesquioxdes in vertical direction. Podzol develops in permeable Si-rich substrates with low concentrations of Ca and Mg such as granite, gneiss or sands. When the pH value of the soil turns acidic, the nutrients are solubilized from the soil particles and are carried into deeper levels by percolating water. In soil you find an A Horizon and a B Horizon. The sesquioxides are translocated from the A Horizon, a zone of out-washing, to the B Horizon, a zone of illuviation (also : washed in / accumulated). Podzol, in comparison to other soils have at the bottom of the A horizon the so called AE horizon, which is an alleviated area which has lost sesquioxides. As the soil becomes sour the darker humic substances sink deeper into the ground into the B Horizon where minerals, organic matter and bases are being illuviated.
The Berlin Forestry now offers a newly developed range of information and experience. The old nature trail was renewed and next to the existing attractions there is now also a (fenced-in) game reserve with deer, wild boars etc and a forest-playground close by. Also, apart from 28 illustrated information boards describing the forest and its inhabitants, a kind of shallow pit was created in which it is possible to see and understand the structure and development of the forest ground. Shortly this interesting depression will be equipped with its own information board.
According to the rules for earth caches there is no container to be found here. Instead, you need to complete the following three tasks to be able to log this cache:
1. Determine the height of the soil profile at the „pit“. A measuring tape or a folding rule might come in handy.
2. The sediments of sand dunes and drifts can be classified into three main classes. Name these classes.
3. Please take a photo of yourself and the soil profile at the „pit“. Feel free to take further pictures of the beautiful flora and fauna and post them in your log.
