An old unmarked road no longer used in Canberra, apart
from pedestrians/cyclists...
Spotted "Weetangera Road" on a scan of an old Tourist Map of Canberra from 1971 and as it isn't really marked on today's maps decided to go look for it. According to the net Belconnen Way was started in 1967 and it probably fell into disuse after this was opened. From the map looks like it ran off Dryandra St opposite Lomandra St and continued on to Haydon Drive.
When I got to this intersection the only sign of anything that might have been the road was a rough track running close by to the old Weetangera Farm, later on becoming the bike track going past the AIS. I suspect this is the old Weetangera Road. Would be interested if any older cachers know if this is it.
*Update* Attached map from 1927 shows Weetangera Road ran West past Weetangera School out towards Uriarra Crossing. Probably followed the present day Belconnen Way, Drake Brockman Drive and Stockdill Drive.
Cache is a small sistema container hidden just off this road, only big enough for small swaps. It should be an easy find? This is my first cache so go easy on me if you can't find it! There may be cycling muggles so watch out.
