GEOCAC is the official agency code for Geocachers who report their benchmark recoveries to the National Geodetic Survey.
GEO*Trailblazer 1 has created a project to have a commemorative mark like this one set in each state of the union, and to get them included into the NGS database.
In the summer of 2008, we volunteered to coordinate and make this project a reality for the state of Wisconsin. Unfortunately, the Geocaching.com database static, and (so it seems) no new marks will be added. Therefore ageocache has been placed to show everyone the location of this special mark.
The Wisconsin GEOCAC mark was the third in the nation to be set, on 26 November 2008. It was officially surveyed in April 2009 by the NWTC Surveying class.
A big thank you goes out to those who helped make this project a reality:
Mr. John Ellingson - Wisconsin State Surveyor, National Geodectic Agency/NOAA
Mr. Pat Ford - Brown County Survey Coordinator
Mr. Rick VanGoethem, RLS - Northeast Wisconsin Technical College
NWTC's gas and electric students, concrete making students, and the surveying class for providing the labor, materials and skills to make this possible!
Geocaching.com for the use of the logo on the station.
GEO*Trailblazer 1 for spearheading this project and helping us out along the way!
AZCachemeister for part of the cache page format.
This cache is a single stage cache. The WI GEOCAC benchmark is close by. Please stop and take a look at it.
While not required, if you would like to take a picture of yourself near the benchmark, we would enjoy seeing it. Please note, the benchmark will not be winter friendly if there is a lot of snow.
