When I first started caching I had a pocket query set up for
all caches in any direction within 5 miles of my home coordinates.
I set my "Home Coordinates" as a nearby cache: GC113J3. As time passed the list of
caches within 5 miles grew shorter and shorter, but I could never
quite get ahead of the constant flood of new caches always being
published. Today, for what may only be a few hours, I finally
cleared the last cache left in what Butcher once told me he calls
“The Donut Hole”.
I checked my cache finds today and learned that I have found
over 500 caches within 5 miles of my home coordinates and close to
1,200 caches within 10 miles. Some of my favorites include:
GC21CRM, GC29MBQ, GC1BTAZ, GC1DRH7, GC1ME6C, GC1GC3C, GC1ATF1. These were pretty cool
too: GC1W58R, GC15NHR, GC14DHG, GC1F8WB, GC1KCAB, GC2679, GC1B3KD.
As an additional (totally optional) logging requirement you
might mention the average distance of the closest 20 caches to your
home coordinates. Just use the “Search for nearest
geocaches” and click on the “filter out finds”
link on the GC.com site. (Puzzle cachers can just mention puzzles
if you like.)
