Geocache Description:

The Tyne Tunnel is a mysterious passageway connecting Tattenhoe in Milton Keynes with Tyneside. No-one knows exactly how it works, although it might just involve a car....

Investigations on this phenomenon suggest that any trackables placed in the northbound entry to Tyne Tunnel somehow end up in South Tyneside. Trackables from the North-East have also been known to find their way south.

To use the tunnel you must ensure that you follow the correct signs.

The journey between the first sign and the northbound entry is quite short but will be twice as long when the river is in spate or if you aren’t very agile on your feet. The first sign is near to the river, so take care if you have kids. As this is a tunnel, then you can assume that the end point is on the other side.

To find the entry to the tunnel you need to read the following information from the sign at the coordinates above. It is wheelchair accessible from the pathway.

  1. Which cycle trail is this sign on ? (Answer = AB)
  2. In miles, how far is it from here to Winslow ? (Answer = C)
  3. How many letters are there in the designer’s given name ? (Answer = D)
  4. And how many letters in his surname ? (Answer = E)
  5. In which year was this sign designed ? (Answer = FGHI)
  6. How many bolts are holding the sign into the floor ? (Answer = J)
  7. Calculate E-J (Answer = K)

Be careful with "D" - there is an initial, and that is NOT the answer you need.

The final cache is located at : North AB AG.HIK West 000 ED.DJC

The tunnel is a 450ml clip lock box covered in black duck tape. It is not in plain sight and is not wheelchair accessible. It is a low traffic area, but there are occasional dog-walking and horse-riding muggles around.

Please take care to re-hide the tunnel exactly as you found it.

The northbound entry to the Tyne Tunnel is a small clip lock box contained inside the larger one. To pay your toll simply leave one or more trackables in the box and log the drop as normal on the website. If your trackables don’t fit in the box then it won't be possible for you to use the tunnel. Please check with the owner before placing any trackables inside.

Items travelling southbound through the tunnel will arrive in the larger box and cachers are welcome to take and relocate any items there. Please don’t remove items from the smaller box.

Obviously if you can write all your logs in Geordie that'd be canny, like. Wye aye !

The northbound tunnel entry looks a bit like this, only smaller....

FTF Honours to Wavvy - Congratulations
