Tussen Wellerlooi en Arcen ligt landgoed de Hamert, 908 ha groot. Dit gebied tussen Maas en Duitse grens, omvat een breed scala aan landschaptypen: de Maasweiden, droge loof- en naaldbossen, heidevelden, vennen, hoogveen, akkers en het snelstromende Geldernsch-Nierskanaal met zijn beekbegeleidende vochtige bos. Het landgoed maakt deel uit van het Nationaal Park de Maasduinen.
Het Pikmeeuwenwater is omringd door duinen die ontstaan zijn aan het einde van de ijstijd (10.000 jaar geleden). De krachtige westenwinden in het koude droge toendraklimaat namen zand uit het kale Maasdal mee en legde dat op de zogenaamde Maasterrassen in hoefijzervormige duinen neer. Hier komt een restant van vroeger in Nederland veel voorkomend hoogveen voor.
Wanneer men de witte route volgt komt men langs een grote, hoog en centraal gelegen grafheuvel. De eerste sporen van bewoning op de Hamert, (grafheuvels) dateren van ca 2000 jaar voor Christus.

Between Wellerlooi and Arcen lies country-seat the Hamert. This is 908 ha. Large. This area between Maas and the German border include a broad scale to landscape types: the Maas meadows, dry loof - and needle bunches, heathland fields, peats, high moorland, lands and the quick flowing Geldernsch-Nierscanal with its brook conductive wet wood. The country-seat makes part of the national park the Maasdunes.
The Pitch gull water is surrounded by dunes that arose at the end of the last ice age (10.000 years ago). The powerful west wind in the cold dry tundra climate takes sand out of the bald Maas valley an put it on so-called Maasterraces in horseshoe-shaped dunes. Here there is a remainder of former days in the Netherlands wehn many attentive high moorland occured.
When you follow the white route you will come along a large, high and central lain sepulchre hillock. The first signs from living on the Hamert, (sepulchre hillock) date from approx 2000 bc.
