Geocache Description:

(Congratulations to TonysMobile for the FTF!)

This multi-cache takes its name as a sort of amalgam/hybrid of the fact that it has a distinct pirate theme/buried treasure overtone to it, as well, as a small hike that can be hellish on hot days, as the sandy/rocky terrain can be off-putting. This is, after all, and island. It also requires crossing water, either by wading across the river side channel on the West side (closest to where one would park). The accesses are obvious, and used by fly fishermen all the time. The other way is by boat from the main channel. If one is unsure about the safety of wading this channel. DO NOT DO IT. River flows are safe even for nine and ten year olds at a CFS release rate of 8,000 and below in the small, western channel. Call 530-246-7594 to see what the flows are for that day. You will get a recording. The channel is still safely wadable by the experienced--with waders--at 12,000 CFS. I did manage to make the secondary hike remain within a reasonable distance from the inaugural point. The primary find will contain the exact coordinates for the cache proper. I do ask that great care is taken during the find, and that as much natural, indigenous appearance is maintained. I personally feel this to be a cache that one will consider worth the trouble to find, and I have gone to a degree of trouble to make it so. I hope you enjoy this cache--on an island that means a great deal to my own memories of solitude, and fishing. If you can involve your children in the search--even better. This would be magical, and more than just a painted, plastic box. First finder will recieve a copy of Robert Louis Steveson's "Treasure Island", along with a kids' pirate themed magic trick.
