Giant Puffball Find
"Calvatia gigantea, commonly known as the Giant puffball, is a puffball mushroom commonly found in meadows, fields, and deciduous forests worldwide usually in late summer and autumn. Most giant puffballs grow to be 10 to 70 centimetres (3.9 to 28 in) in diameter, although occasionally some can reach diameters up to 150 centimetres (59 in) and weights of 20 kilograms (44 lb). My oldest son and I stumbled upon this find while trying to find a suitable location for our second ever cache. These giant balls are quite amazing. When touching one, don't be surprised if you get the creeps!
Remember to respect these mushrooms and be careful of where you step. Some have already delivered their spore payload while others are still growing. Let's keep this area as unblemished as possible.
Depending on how you attack the trek to GZ, it can be a terrain of 2 or a terrain of 3.5.
It is not recommended to search for at night. There are some serious obstacles and we don't want to see anyone get hurt trying a night find.

As of 9-10-2011: only three puffballs are left. They are still within 20' of the cache. Please do not disturb the remaining puffballs.
As 11-2-2014: Puffballs are a thriving. They are in various states of spreading spores, but I saw at least five with one that looked like it was mooning me. What really surprises me is that people eat these monsters. Please don't harvest these if you are a 'shroomer.
