It's That Time of Year Again...

Join us again at the main stage in Bell Buckle for our eighth annual Halloween Geocaching event. For those of you that joined us for GeoWoodstock VII it will be a familiar spot, for those who didn't, think of it as an opportunity to visit this "historic" location. Once again, we are going to make this one a camping event. For more info, check out the lodging details below. Finally, we have something special planned for those who show up to the event, a return to a more traditional, or at least, historic approach to a geocaching event. Other than that, things should be the same old hauntingly good time you have come to expect, with a couple of new surprises.

The Food & Festivities

As usual, we will have a weenie roast at the bonfire with s'mores for dessert. We will provide plenty of our salsas and sauces for chipping and dipping along with the hot dogs and the s'mores construction material. Please bring your favorite potluck dish to share with the group. We will also provide hot spiced tea and cocoa, but we ask you to bring anything else you may want to drink. We are planning a special dramatic presentation or two, but you know how we are about our secrets, so we're not telling you about those yet. Of course, we will have lots of time to sit around the bonfire and tell tall geocaching tales and stories of the spookiest cache hunts ever. Since there is camping right on site this year, I daresay that the opportunity to chat could go well past the Witching Hour.

The Contests

What would a Halloween Geocaching Event be without silly contests? Well, we are not going to find out, because we will be having lots of silly contests complete with totally useless and cheesy prizes for the winners, although we might slip something cool in as a prize occasionally. This year we will be having contests for:

  • Best Costume (Child Division)
  • Best Costume (Adult Division)
  • Best Werewolf Howl
  • Best Witch Cackle
  • Best Carved Pumpkin
  • Biggest Pumpkin
  • Best Halloween Decorated Geocache Container
  • plus, bobbing for apples, and much, much more traditional fun!

This year more than ever, costumes are strongly recommended, expect serious ridicule if you show up out of costume.

    The Lodging Details

Since this one usually goes until well into the night, we have decided to include lodging information for those of you travelling from out of town. We will have camping on the grounds this year so bring your tents. You can set up anytime after 4 PM in our special camping area, which will be a short distance, like 200 feet from the bonfire area. Hopefully, this will keep our night owls from disturbing our morning larks and vice versa. You can decamp at your leisure on Sunday. There are several B&B's in the town and traditional hotels are available in Shelbyville, Lewisburg and Murfreesboro, but they are all a bit further to drive.

    The obligatory disclaimers...

As always, this is a family friendly event, adult beverages are welcome, but let's keep it discreet until the kiddies go to bed. BREAKING NEWS!!! At the request of many of our guests, we are creating an official time for discretion to be thrown to the winds. This year at 10 PM adults will be able to openly and proudly enjoy their beverages responsibly. We may even have some games and fun for the over 21 crowd. While we do not expect any bacchanalian madness to break out, I will say that if your children are still present after this time, you may experience some teachable moments. Consider yourselves warned or titillated, depending on your point of view...

    The Bottom Line

We look forward to seeing everyone this year, it keeps growing and this year's event should be bigger and better than ever, with more fun and surprises around every corner. So come on out and join us for our Eighth Annual Haunted Halloween Caching Campout, it should be an old-fashioned, good time.
