Posted coordinates are for the trail head;
a Great Place to start.
Your adventure starts by hiking from the trail head toward the
last known location of the Cacher Pirate, who is also
searching for this cache.
Also, if you plan on finding "BFL Boot Camp V :: Tachyonic
Antitelephone", take note of the 4 digit code found on the 1st page
of the log book.
Your first goal is somewhere along the escarpment, on the
Bruce 'WHITE' Trail; so watch for the entrance sign on the left.
The goal's exact location can be determined either by solving the
puzzle below; OR navigating to it, using the multimedia rich
wherigo cartridge. (This cartridge can be downloaded from the
Related Web Page link, located near the top of this
geocaching page.)
For those solving the puzzle, to find this
first position; please use the provided Geo-Checker, before
heading out. This area can be dangerous; and the rocks slippery, if
wet.
During the last stage of this night cache, the final
camo'd container can be found by following reflectors along the
Bruce Trail; and near the end of your journey hiking off-trail
approximately 15m to the right.
This last part only requires a bright flashlight and good
'geo-sense'. So be prepared to hunt safely in the dark; and carry
something to sign the log.
The reflective tacks start about 10m down the trail, from your
first goal, and continue for only about 100m. So, if you
pass UNDER a Bruce Trail Marker, before discovering the off-trail
marker; you will have gone too far. Head back toward the last
reflector you found and try hunting again.
At no time should you venture toward the
escarpment edge.
Puzzle
To Find The Pirate's Last Known Location.
Using each highlighted item in the night caching safety
note below, circle each of these words in the puzzle
below. Then determine the 'alphabet position (a=1, b=2, ... z=26)'
of ONLY the shared letters in the word COORDINATES. Combined these
numbers in the manner shown below, to fix the bogus waypoint N43
02.581 W079 45.662.
Concatenate the first 3 letter's numeral
position in the form of xx.xxx minutes and add it to the
North Coordinate; then do the same with the last 3
letter's found and add it to the West. Ignore any other
commonly shared letters. (For those not familar with
concatenate, it means JOIN end to end.)

Geocaching is fun, and nightcaching is an exciting extension.
But it can be dangerous, if you are not equipped properly to hunt
in the dark. And teamwork, with trusted friends, will help keep you
safe from predators of all kinds.
You will find good hikingshoes help you navigate obstacles, and gloves handy to reach into enclosed spaces, which
may contain more than you are expecting. Also a lanyard to tether your GPS and flashlight to your body is a
great idea.
To log a
nightcache, you need to
know the coordinates of
the cache involved, and have a BRIGHT flashlight with you. The best
type of flashlight to see a reflector is a headlamp, which helps align your eyes in the path
of the retroreflected light.
Other safety gear to have along includes: a compass, firstaidkit, cellphone, and lots of batteries.
Before you head out on the trails to find any cache, always MOB your entry point. In the dark, hunting
geocaches can easily get you disoriented in only a few meters of
dense cover, in a quiet country setting.

Many thanks go out to northernpenquin and past BFL Crew for
excellent past nightcache inspirations; res2100 who suggested several great
locations for this particular cache; rucache for helping with placement and
initial beta testing; local KW CO, HomerJFong, for the puzzle concept
inspiration and, of course, the cachedrone who patiently mentored me
through publication details of my 1st nightcache. This has been
a fun experience!!
