Lázne Darkov se nacházejí na severovýchode Ceské republiky. Tvorí je dve lécebná zarízení: Lécebna Darkov v Karviné–Darkove a Rehabilitacní sanatorium v Karviné–Hranicích.

Díky vysoké úrovni lécby, která je založená na mimorádném prírodním bohatství jodobromové vody s vysokým obsahem jódu, profesionalite zamestnancu a kvalite doplnkových služeb se Lázne Darkov radí mezi vyhledávaná lázenská zarízení.

Vznik Lázní Darkov je pripisován roku 1867, kdy byla zahájena 1. lázenská sezóna. Založení lázní predcházelo vedecké prozkoumání prírodního lécivého zdroje, jodobromové vody solanky, kterou již dríve znali místní lidé v podobe lécivé studánky a využívali ji v prírodním lécitelství.

Postupem casu bylo zjišteno, že vzácná voda s vynikajícími úcinky, zejména pro lécbu pohybového ústrojí a cévního systému, má morský tretihorní puvod a plným právem byla nazvána darem z hlubin zeme.

Vehlas lázní se velmi rychle šíril. Od roku 1895 - 1902 byla budována další ubytovací zarízení, jelikož první dve budovy již nedostacovaly. Založen byl i lázenský park se vzácnými drevinami.

Další výstavba následovala až v r. 1931. S výjimkou dvou svetových válek, kdy se prostory promenily ve vojenský lazaret, sloužily Lázne Darkov po celou dobu svému úcelu. Posledním jejich majitelem pred rokem 1945 byl hrabe Larisch-Mönnich, pak se staly na dlouhou dobu majetkem státu.

Jelikož solanka je uložena ve výdutích uhelné pánve, musely lázne celit vlivum dulní cinnosti a po urcitý cas hrozil lázním zánik. Proto bylo pristoupeno k výstavbe nových objektu na opacném predmestí mesta Karviné. Tento nový areál vzájemne propojených budov byl postupne zprovoznen v letech 1976, 1980 a 1989 pod názvem Rehabilitacní sanatorium.

Budovy se vyznacovaly architektonickou strohostí dané doby, ale svým prostorovým vybavením rozšírily možnost lécby pro imobilní klienty u zcela nových diagnóz, zejména stavu po mozkových príhodách, úrazech i operacích pohybového ústrojí.

Obe lázenské cásti, Lécebna Darkov i Rehabilitacní sanatorium, pusobily jako jeden ekonomický celek státního podniku. Puvodní lázenské budovy díky pozastavení dulní cinnosti mohly být po roce 1989 postupne zrekonstruovány i zmodernizovány, a nyní všechny v maximální míre odpovídají požadavkum dnešního standardu. Nekteré z budov byly pro svou architekturu vyhlášeny kulturní památkou a lázenský park, rovnež zrekonstruovaný, byl oznacen jako významný krajinný prvek.

Od 1. 9. 2003 se Lázne Darkov staly akciovou spolecností, která ve své cinnosti navázala na 135letou tradici významných lázní. Velkými investicemi do modernizace spolecnost usiluje o další zkvalitnení a zatraktivnení prostredí.

Darkov Spa is situated in the north-eastern region of the Czech Republic, in the centre of Europe. Darkov Spa consists of two health resorts: Darkov Health Resort and Rehabilitation Sanatorium, both of which are located in the town of Karviná.

Darkov Spa welcomes almost 13,000 clients every year, clients who arrive here to recover from their afflictions of the locomotive organs, neurological and other diseases. Furthermore, there is a numerous group of spa guests who perceives this curative stay as the perfect time for rest and relaxation, and they make use of the offer of our short-term stays. The origin of Darkov Spa dates back to 1867, when the first spa season was established. Previous scientific analysis of the natural curative source, iodine-bromine water called "brine", had been carried out. It was known as a "curative well" amongst the local people, who made use of it for their treatment.

Later it was found that the origin of water, with its favourable influence on the vascular system, as well as the locomotive apparatus, is from a tertiary period, and it can reasonably be called "the gift from the deep".

The reputation of the spa spread very quickly. In the years 1895-1902 other accommodation facilities were built as the first two buildings became insufficient for the task. The spa park, with its distinctive species of trees, was established.

Another construction period was undertaken in 1931. With the exception of the two World Wars, when rooms were transformed into a military surgery, Darkov Spa was fulfilling its purpose. Earl Larisch-Mönnich was the last owner of Darkov Spa before 1945, after which it came into the possession of the government for a number of years.

As the brine is saved in the pockets of coal fields, the spa had to face the effects of the local coal mining activities, and for some time there was actual destruction of the spa. For this reason the construction of new facilities was started in the opposite suburbs of Karviná town. This new complex of interconnected buildings was put into operation in stages through the years 1976, 1980 and 1989, and became known as the Rehabilitation Sanatorium

The buildings are characterized by the typical austere architecture of that period, but with its spatial facilities they allowed the treatment of immobile clients to be carried out with completely new diagnoses, especially for conditions after cerebral apoplexy, injuries or operations on the locomotive organs.

Both spa resorts - Darkov Health Resort and the Rehabilitation Sanatorium - worked as one economic entity of the state-owned company. Thanks to the cessation of the coal mining activities, the original spa buildings could be gradually reconstructed and renewed from 1989, and, by today, all of them meet with the demands of today's standards in spas on the highest level. Because of its architectonic features some of the buildings were declared cultural sights and the spa park, which was renovated, was registered as a significant scenic sight.

From September 1, 2003 Darkov Spa became a public limited company which continues its 135 years old tradition of the significant spa. With the help of investments put into modernization, the spa aspires to achieve still more qualitative and attractive surroundings.
