Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Lurdes também conhecida por Ermida do
Faial da Terra esta construída numa elevação sobranceira a povoação
do Faial da Terra e deste local podem verificar porquê é conhecido
esta localidade como o “Presépio da Ilha”. Construída
em 1900, veio a tornar-se num importante lugar de devoção entre os
habitantes da freguesia.
A freguesia do Faial da Terra esta
situada entre duas montanhas ciclópicas de onde brotam águas
límpidas com o oceano quase a beijar as ruas e a ribeira, separando
a localidade a meio.
O seu nome advêm-lhe da abundância
de faias existentes no lugar onde foi implantada, é por excelência
um local de visita.
Com 391 habitantes, o Faial da Terra
vive, actualmente, da agro-pecuária. No entanto, nem sempre foi
assim. Nos princípios do século XVI a fertilidade da terra e a
beleza do Vale atraíram os primeiros provadores, que depressa
fizeram produzir os terrenos, criando os seus próprios meios de
subsistência. O mar também foi um aliado muito precioso para esta
comunidade, pois foi uma das principais localidades baleeiras da
ilha de São Miguel, cujas marcas da actividade, o tempo ainda não
conseguiu apagar.
Muito conhecida pela sua aldeia
fantasma, o Sanguinho, local predilecto de passagem dos turistas,
devido à beleza “suis geniris” das plantas endémicas e
à atracção que o local provoca, a freguesia do Faial da Terra
permanece fiel às suas particularidades.
