On the lands of Robert the Devil Traditional Geocache

On a small hill facing both the river Seine and the castle of "Robert le Diable" (XIe century), father of William the Conqueror. This castle was used by King Richard Lionheart and partially destroyed by his brother Prince John Lackland.

Sur une petite butte surplombant une boucle de la Seine, en face du chateau de Robert le Diable (XIe century) père de Guillaume le Conquérant, près d'un chemin de grandes migrations. Il a été utilisé par Richard Coeur de Lion et en partie détruit par son frère Jean Sans Terre.

The castle once was a nice museum with a full size drakkar and the opportunity to go up the towers and imagine oneself guarding the area from the Viking raids (young boys usually have that mindset, at least, I had!). A the time of the cache creation, the castle was fading away in human memory and attracting geocaching tourists was a way to slow this processus! Since 2007, the castle is public property and work is being done to reopen it.
If someone doesn't appreciate the cache location subject to pollution, let's remind what impact we have on the environment in our activities including geocaching and other nature oriented activities. If someone find a better location in the castle vicinity, let me know the coordinates...

Note: faire cette cache pour mieux découvrir le chateau et le panorama sur la vallée de la Seine, pas pour la cache elle-même qui n'est pas dans un endroit particulièrement agréable à visiter.
Le chateau était autrefois un fleuron du tourisme local et permettait à tous (et plus particulièrement aux jeunes garçons dont j'étais) de découvrir un vrai drakkar et de s'imaginer sur le chemin de ronde à protéger le voisinage des invasions vikings. Au moment de la création de la cache, il était complètement à l'abandon et le tourisme géo-assisté était une modeste contribution pour ralentir son oubli. Depuis 2007, il appartient à l'Agglomération de Rouen qui a entrepris des travaux de réhabilitation pour permettre sa réouverture au public.
Si quelqu'un n'apprécie pas l'emplacement pollué auditivement et olfactivement de la cache, il permet au moins de prendre conscience de l'impact écologique des autoroutes sur l'environnement et de garder à l'esprit toutes les conséquences de nos activités, même celles dites "de nature" (que celui qui n'a jamais fait un petit détour en voiture pour une cache nous jette la première pierre!).
