Geocache Description:

Kes nas zavede nedaleko mist poslednich dnu Leose Janacka. Tento velikan ceske vazne hudby zemrel v Mestske nemocnici na ostarvskych Fifejdach 12.8.1928 na zapal plic v budove byvaleho Kleinova plicniho sanatoria.

Historický dum, znamy jako Kleinovo santorium, dnes po rozsahle adaptaci, slouzi jako budova reditelstvi Mestské nemocnice Ostrava-Fifejdy. Soukrome plicni sanatorium manzelu Kleinovych, ktere zakoupila obec v exekucni drazbe, se stalo soucasti mestske nemocnice v roce 1937. V srpnu 1944 pri bombardovani Moravske Ostravy spojeneckými angloamerickymi letadly doslo k poskozeni a objekt si vyzadal opravy vetsiho rozsahu. V lednu 1949 byla nemocnice, a tedy i Kleinovo sanatorium, zestatnena. Od roku 1956 v budove sidlilo porodnicko-gynekologické oddelení. V dalsich letech zde bylo umisteno ocni, interni a onkologicke oddeleni, pozdeji Lekarska sluzba prvni pomoci Mestske zachranne sluzby a pohotovostni vydejna leku.

Dlouha leta pripominala datum Janackovy smrti kamenna deska umistena na budovu sanatoria, v soucasne dobe je po rekonstrukci a umistena, lepe receno a z neznameho duvodu, schovana pred zraky kolemjdoucich ve vstupni chodbe budovy dnesniho reditelstvi mestske nemocnice.

This cache will lead you to the place where Leos Janacek spent the last days of his life. This giant of the Czech classical music died from pneumonia in the former Klein pulmonary sanatorium in Ostrava-Fifejdy Municipal Hospital on August 12, 1928.

A few words about the interesting history of the Ostrava Municipal Hospital can be found on its website: www.mnof.cz/historie/

A historical building, known also as Klein sanatorium, underwent a large reconstruction and was changed into the head office of the Ostrava-Fifejdy Municipal Hospital. The private pulmonary sanatorium of Mr. and Mrs. Klein was purchased by the municipality on a judicial sale and became a part of the hospital in 1937. During the Allied bombing of Moravian Ostrava in August 1944, the building was damaged and therefore it was necessary to restore it considerably. Both, the hospital and Klein sanatorium were nationalised in 1949. Since 1956, obstetric and gynaecology, ophthalmology, internal medicine and oncology wards have been located there, as well as the municipal emergency service and a 24-hour pharmacy service.

For years, the date of Janacek’s death was remembered by a stone plaque on the sanatorium building. Nowadays, it has been renovated and located - or better to say - for unknown reasons hidden from passers-by’s eyes in the entry corridor of the today’s Municipal Hospital headquarters. .

This microcache type NANO is hidden OUTSIDE the area of hospital; therefore the treasure hunt is possible during the all day.
