Geocache Description:

New Barnet owes its existence in no small part to New Barnet station. On 7 August 1850 the Great Northern Railway line was opened, running from Peterborough to Maiden Lane in London. New Barnet station (then simply named Barnet) was one of the original stations. It was approximately one mile's walk from the station to the town (now High Barnet).

To build the railway the Great Northern Commpany had to purchase land from the different farms and estates, known as the Lyonsdown Estate. The owner forced the company to buy the entire estate rather than slithers of land, and so the excess land was sold off to the British Land Company who began to develop the area. Many of the local streets take their names from the Battle of Barnet which was fought in 1471.

On 1 May 1884 the station was renamed from Barnet to New Barnet.

The container you are looking for is a camoflaged 35mm film case, containing a log book only. You will need to bring your own pencil to sign with. Please note that to fit the log book back in the container after signing it should be rolled up and inserted into the dip in the cap, otherwise the log will be crushed.

Congratulations to The Moosters on the First to Find!
