Welcome to the
2010
MnGCA Fall Event and Election

The Fall 2010 Event Committee is pleased to announce the
MnGCA Fall Event and Elections will be held at:

Staring Lake Park on Saturday, October 16th, 2010

Who:

This event is open to the public.You do NOT have to be a member of the MnGCA to attend this event. Veteran geocachers, newbie geocachers and people who just want to learn what geocaching is about are all welcome. Geocaching is a family orientated activity and so is this event. Bring the kids!

What:

A social event with lunch and geocaching activities. We will have prizes, games, caching, contests, kids caches and more kids activities listed below! There are 7 permanent caches in the park and maybe even a puzzle cache or 2.

When:

9:30AM to 5:00PM


Where:

Staring Lake Park
14800 Pioneer Trail
Eden Prairie, MN

Staring Lake Park is located just outside the sw corner of the Twin Cities loop in Eden Prairie. The park is located on 187 acres on the southwest side of Staring Lake just off Pioneer Trail across the street from Flying Cloud Airport. Staring Lake Park has 2 1/2 miles of walking trails circling the lake. The park also boasts baseball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts, sand volleyball court, an ampitheater where we'll have our meeting if it's available, a boat launch, fishing dock, 9 hole disc golf course, and an expanded playground for the kids right by our picnic area.

For those of you bringing dogs:
Located adjacent to the Staring Lake Archery Range, is an off-leash dog exercise area. 5.7 acres of fenced area offers spacious woods, an open area and natural walking paths.

There will be a special k-9 cache for those bringing their 4 legged friends!

LUNCH:
The MnGCA will provide burgers and hot dogs free of charge, but would appreciate if folks are willing to bring a potluck food offering to share. See more below!

Why:

Because it's just plain fun! This is a great chance to breathe the crisp fall air of Money Magazine's #1 City In America to live while "caching" up with friends new and "old". And, of course, to get cachin'!

SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES:

9:30 am - Noon

Check-In and Meet & Greet
If you are new to caching and need help let us know and we will find you a buddy to show you how the game is played!
At check-in be sure to:
1).Pick up your "BINGO Game Sheet" Complete and turn it in by 1:00
2). Name Tag
3). Sign the Event Log

Various Times

Kick the Can (of pork and beans) Game 10:00-1:00
Kubb
Get your 2010 MnGCA t-shirts and bandanas while supplies last!
Also, available are a limited number of MnGCA 2010 geocoins general edition (red & blue canoes) $10 each!
MnGCA travel bug (cachekinz) may also be available if we still have any. $4 each!
A variety of lawn games for all ages will be available throughout the day!

Geo Golf
As you stroll the park find the perfect spot for your "hole-in-one" and mark the coordinates on your gps. Once you return from the fairway, write your coordinates down on your "scorecard" and turn it in to the scorekeeper. You're hoping to have the closest match to the coordinates of our virtual "cup". The golfer with the lowest handicap wins!

9:30 am - 1:45

Creative Cache Container Contest
Bring your most creative cache container(s) to be judged by your fellow cachers. Prize will be awarded at 2 pm.

"Guess What's in the PB Jar!" Contest
Guess what's hiding in the camo'd peanut butter jar! Enter your guess and you might win the prize that will be awarded at 2. pm.

9:30 until found

FTF Hangman Game
(N _ _ _ _._ _ _ W _ _ _ _ _._ _ _ ) a number will be added each 1/2 hour to the N OR W coordinates which will reveal the cache’s coordinates. The first person industrious enough to figure out where we hid the cache can claim the FTF prize inside.

Medallion Hunt
First clue given upon arrival. New clue given at the top of every hour until the medallion is found!

Kid's Treasure Hunt
Buried in the sand volleyball court are hidden treasures! Kids up to age 8 welcome!

Sir_Zman will be hosting a LIVE episode of Twin Cities Geocaching Podcast!

Noon - 1:00 pm

LUNCHTIME: Butcher (the cacher)  will be helming the grill and the MnGCA will provide burgers, buns, plates, utensils, napkins, condiments, and cups.

Please help us with lunch by bringing and sharing potluck style. If your caching name starts with the letters:

A through E - please bring Appetizers/Munchies

F through N - please bring salads/soups/stews

O through T - please bring Desserts

U through Z- please bring Beverages
