The weather forecast for the next weekend is typical Portuguese
summer: plenty of sunshine from dawn to dusk and hot temperatures.
The stripe of sand from Costa da Caparica to Fonte da Telha is one
of the most popular beach destinations for the people of the Great
Lisbon area. Costa da Caparica is usually overcrowded. But if you
want a quieter spot, just get the Transpraia little train and
choose one of the several stops (paragem) between Caparica and
Fonte da Telha. One of the stops is a popular destination for gay
people; just ask if you either want to go there or to avoid it.
Here you see the train in Fonte da Telha (click for map location).
People are heading for the beach, while the locomotive is already
on the side track after it was turned around (see workshop), to
initiate the new trip towards Costa da Caparica. See also the other
workshop with three photos of the turning sequence. If you are in
Lisbon I suggest you the following trip: take the cacilheiro
ferry-boat from Belém to Trafaria. There, get the TST bus to Costa
da Caparica, where you can get the Transpraia to the beaches
further south.
