Gneiss is the most common rock in Delsjöområdet. Gneiss is a
metamorphic rock with a distinct banding, which is apparent in hand
specimen or on a microscopic scale. Gneiss can be
classified on the basis of minerals that are present, presumed
formational processes, chemical composition, or probable parent
material. Orthogneiss is formed by the metamorphism of
igneous rocks; paragneiss results from the
metamorphism of sedimentary rocks. Pencil
gneiss contains rod-shaped individual minerals or
segregations of minerals, and augen gneiss
contains stubby lenses of, yes this is the first question!
To log this Earth Cache you have to answer the following
questions:
1. That is the eyes in the augen gneiss made of?
2. Give an explanation of the process forming the augen
gneiss.
3. Estimate how large the eyes are in the gneiss on the rocks by
the Earth Cache.

Gnejs, grovkorning, folierad metamorf bergart.
Olika strukturella typer som bandad gnejs, ådergnejs och ögongnejs
förekommer. Man skiljer mellan ortognejser, dvs. sådana
som är omvandlade magmatiska bergarter, och paragnejser,
som är omvandlade sedimentära bergarter. Gnejser, graniter och
granitoider är de ojämförligt vanligaste bergarterna i det svenska
urberget. Man har brutit gnejs för produktion av byggnads-,
ornament-, kant- och gatsten huvudsakligen i Halland och Blekinge.
Makadamtillverkningen är till stor del baserad på gnejser och
förekommer över hela landet.
