Geocache Description:

St George’s, Ashtead

dcb6199c-a305-4afd-b0c7-d9e785b9557f.jpg

A Church Micro Cache set near the parish church of St. George’s in the village of Ashtead, Surrey.

Another contribution to this extensive series, started by sadexploration.

Parking is available outside the Church.

The population of Ashtead grew in the late 19th Century as the new railway to London had it’s effect. To accommodate this growth, St. George’s was built in 1905 as a daughter church for the 12th Century St. Giles’.

In 1999 St. George’s was closed for a year to allow extensive renovation and extension. The resulting complex was named the St. George’s Christian Centre.

Today St. George’s is extremely well supported with a large, friendly and energetic congregation of all ages. It is very active in the local and wider community, often working with the congregations of St. Giles and churches of other denominations in Ashtead. Take a look at the Related Web Page if you are interested.

The cache is not at the published co-ordinates, they are for a war memorial within the church grounds.

At 11 a.m. on Remembrance Sunday each year a brief, but poignant service is held here. A large crowd gathers and local groups such as Guides, Scouts and the British Legion lay wreathes. A bugler then sounds the Last Post.

Pay your respects and find Pilot Trevor J. Hood who died DD/MM/YYYY.

Convert the date to AB/CD/EFGH.

The cache is at N 51 (B+F).BG(H-A)    W 000 (B+F).H(D-E)A

You are looking for a 35mm film container. There is no pen, so please bring your own.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
