SideTracked - Disley Traditional Geocache
Thirteen00: Sadly this cache has been stolen for the third time. The last two relatively close together in time. We fear the hide is no longer secure and that a replacement would go the same way. There is no sufficiently similar hide nearby so a move and change of coordinates is not an option as it would effectively be a new and different cache. Thanks to all who visited our first hide over the years.

About Disley
Disley is a village and civil Parish in the county of Cheshire, England. It was historically spelt Dystlegh-Stanlegh dating back to the time of Edward I when the village itself was held by Jordan de Dystlegh and a hamlet to the north by Grym de Stanlegh. It is located on the very edge of the Peak District, in the Goyt Valley, close to the county boundary with Derbyshire and about six miles south east of Stockport. To the north, the River Goyt and the Peak Forest Canal, which opened in 1800, pass along the edge of the village.
About the line
In 1853 Thomas Legh, together with other landowners and financiers from London, formed the committee of the Stockport Disley and Whaley Bridge Railway, with its first meeting at the Swan Inn Disley. When the Bill was put before Parliament there was opposition from both the MS&LR and the LNWR, however the Stockport and Whaley Bridge Railway Act was passed on July 31, 1854. The line was initially operated on the company's behalf by the LNWR. It was later extended from Whaley Bridge through to Buxton and there is generally now a train in each direction once an hour. The line was opened on May 28, 1857 and a special train left Stockport for Whaley Bridge. On the return journey a celebratory dinner was held in the old schoolroom at Disley.
About the cache
The cache is a short distance along the Gritstone Trail, a 35 mile walk between Disley and Kidsgrove. The path can be quite busy so stealth may be required.Please be careful to replace the cache and its covering EXACTLY as you found it. The cache container is slightly smaller than a typical micro and contains only a log roll. Bring your own pen/pencil .
