Geocache Description:

Thanks for more than 1250 founds! - Danke sagt broiler

This Earthcache guides you to the Jameos del Agua, one of the
touristical highlights of Lanzarote.

To fulfil the task for this Earthcache you do NOT have to go inside
the cave and pay the entrance fee, but we recommend to visit the
site.

"Jameos" is the spanisch word for a lava tube with a hole
in the ceiling.

The Jameos del Agua and the nearby Cueva de los Verdes (see
Earthcache GC1C1A4) are part of the same lava tube system developed
through eruptions of the volcano Volcan de la Corona.

The Jameos del Agua is named after its inner lake, which is a
unique geological feature. This little lake is formed by breaking
in slope because it is lying under sea level.

There are at least three holes ("Jameos") where the water can go
inside: "Jameo chico" (the hole through which you enter the tube),
"Jameo grande" (the hole through which you leave the tube and
"Jameo redondo" (a hole in the ceiling of the lava tube).

The whole lava tube, which was formed by the eruption of the volcan
de la corona, is about 6 kilometers long and one of the longest in
the world. It begins at the crater of the volcano and the last 1,5
kilometers are under the sea.

Inside the lake lives an endemic cave crab (Munidopsis polymorpha)
which developed a lack of pigment. Therefore it is white, less than
one centimeter long and the symbol for the Jameos del Agua.

The Cave as you will see it today was constructed by no other than
Cesar Manrique.

To log this cache as a found you have to

search for a lava tube "with Jameo" in Lanzarote, which you have
to find by your own (be sure when you do some caching on Lanzarote
you will find one (around the parking area are some little ones), therefore a photo of the inside of the Jameos
del Agua or Cueva de los Verdes will NOT fulfil the task)

alternatively you can construct a model of a Jameo by your
own using your imagination.

Then find a way to document your find or model in your log (e.g.
with a photo, (the hole in the ceiling of the tube must be visibel)).

To prove you have been physically there please upload a picture of you or your GPSr at the headkoordinates or at a recognisable spot inside the "Jameos del Agua".(re-allowed by GC since June 2019)
