A True W.V. Geocacher 1 …. enjoys eating Rhodo and flossing with cobwebs! Our first geocache and (perhaps) the start of a series (hence the 1). Warning: Steep and rocky. May entail slithering at times. Best accomplished by those with some of the genetic traits of the mountain goat. (I know some of you are drooling on your computer keyboard right about now.) This is a multi-cache with an easy puzzle to start things off. The cache is located in a beautiful and unique area of W.V. that frequently has people passing very near and very unaware of what they are passing. This cache will get you up close and personal with native shrubs, gorgeous home grown W.V. rocks positioned in some amazing formations and some spectacular views. Some suggestions: Daylight hours only! I am guessing that this will take some geocachers several hours to complete so please leave enough time to complete it before dark. There is no need to break your way through the underbrush, most will push aside or you can go under or around. Often the most direct path is not the best path. Please watch your footing. We don’t want to read any logs about sprained ankles or worse. I have hiked this in the rain but it is not recommended. Difficulty is a 4 partly because the terrain tends to play havoc with the GPS signal…some days are good and on some there is a great deal of bounce. All waypoints were averaged with over 100 readings (on a good day) with accuracy estimates of less than 18 feet. You may be better off getting a reading from the highest nearby point, once you are near ground zero for each of the stages, but you probably already knew that. At no point do you need to get wet – other than from the sweat that may drip down your neck. Proceed from the parking coordinates to the posted coordinates and take a load off…you may need the energy later. Use the object at hand to find the coordinates to the second stage by following the directions below: Multiply the number of letters in the fourth line (down from the top) by six and add that number to the North coordinate for this location and this will give you the North coordinate for Stage 2. Multiply the number of letters in the 13th word (from the top left reading left to right) by 20 and add that number to the number of letters in the 12th word. Add this new sum to the West coordinates for this location and you now know where to look for Stage 2. The final contains some nice swag for those that complete the cache. Enjoy!!
