Farol de Gonçalo Velho
Esta infra-estrutura, que entrou em funcionamento a 15 de Novembro de 1927, baptizada com o nome do navegador que “descobriu” a ilha, localizada na Ponta do Castelo, SE da ilha de Santa Maria, tem um alcance de 25 milhas (46,3Kms). O Farol de Gonçalo Velho, tem uma torre prismática quadrangular com 14 metros de altura e 114 metros de altitude. Foi equipado com um aparelho lenticular de 3ª ordem, grande modelo (500 mm distância focal), sendo a fonte luminosa o gás BBT, e de reserva a incandescência pelo vapor de petróleo e um candeeiro de nível constante. A rotação da óptica é produzida pela máquina de relojoaria, produzindo grupos de três relâmpagos de cor branca de 10 em 10 segundo de alcance 29 milhas com a fonte luminosa principal. A parte superior da cúpula é de vidro para lhe dar a característica de aeromarítimo. O farol foi electrificado em 1957 (com lâmpada de incandescência de 3000, 120V, como fonte luminosa). Em 1971 a máquina de relojoaria deu lugar a um motor de rotação eléctrico e em 1987 o farol foi automatizado com sistema modelo DF. A potência da fonte luminosa foi reduzida com a instalação de uma lâmpada de halogéneo de 1000W, 120V. Em 1991 foi electrificado com energia da rede pública.
Lighthouse of Gonçalo Velho
This infrastructure, which came into operation on November 15, 1927, named after the navigator who "discovered" the island, located in Ponta do Castelo, SE on the island of Santa Maria, has a range of 25 miles (46 , 3Kms). The Lighthouse Gonçalo Velho, has a prismatic tower with 14 square meters and 114 meters of altitude. In 1971 the machine and watches was replaced by an electric motor rotation and in 1987 the lighthouse was automated with a system model DF. The power of the light source was reduced by installing a halogen bulb 1000W, 120v. In 1991 it was electrified with utility power.
