[Fin:] Tervolan kunnan Varejoen kylässä sijaitsee Törmävaaran pohjoisrinteen juurella pienellä alueella monipuolinen kokonaisuus muinais- ja lähihistoriaa. Alueella on ensinnäkin sijainnut tuhansia vuosia sitten, kivikaudella ja Litorinanmeren aikaan kalastajien ja hylkeenpyytäjien pitkäaikainen asuinpaikka. Jääkauden jälkeen Törmävaara on ollut pitkiä aikoja saari. Muistoina noista muinaisista asukkaista ovat monet arkeologiset kaivauskohteet sekä Varejoen kyläkoulun pihapiirissä olevat kaksi muinaisen esikuvan mukaan rakennettua (tosin esikuviaan kookkaammiksi tehtyä) kivikauden asumusta ja niiden yläpuolella kiertävä polku, jonka varrella kivikauden Törmävaarasta kerrotaan opastauluissa.

Koulun ja kivikauden asumusten naapurina sijaitsee ortodoksinen tsasuona ja hautausmaa. Tsasouna (pyhittäjä Trifon Petsamolaisen rukoushuone) rakennettiin 1950-luvulla kun Varejoelle oli asutettu Neuvostoliitolle luovutetulta Petsamon alueelta muuttaneita ortodokseja.
Varejoen koulun koulutoiminta päättyi muutamia vuosia sitten, mutta koulun tiloissa ja alueella toimii aktiivisesti Varejoen kyläyhdistys. Koulun urheilukenttä toimii talvella hiihtokilpailuiden areenana.
Kätkö on n. 0,4 litran kokoinen joten muutama pienempi kulkijakin siihen sopii. Kätkö ei sijaitse muinaisjäännöksen alueella, kivikauden mallin mukaisissa rakennuksissa tai tsasounan ja hautausmaan alueella. Vältäthän kätkön etsimistä mikäli lähettyvillä on tsasounan tilaisuuksia tai muita yleisötapahtumia. Löytääksesi kätkön sinun ei tarvitse kaivaa tai siirtää mitään.
[Eng:] Hill of Törmävaara is located in the village of Varejoki, municipality of Tervola. On the northern slope of the hill is an area on which you can spot prehistorical remains, and in the yard of the school of village Varejoki are two newly built huts, shaped according to stone-age models (although they are bigger than their original predecessors). After the ice age, hill of Törmävaara was an island for a long term, and during that era ancient fishermen and hunters of seals inhabited this area. Beginning from 1940's several prehistoric remains and relics were found from this area, and at least one notable item, stone dagger with the shape of the head of a moose, has been placed in the stone age -collection of the national museum of Finland.
In the neighbourhood of the school and the stone age buildings is located a small orthodox church, ”tsasouna” and a cemetery. Tsasouna has been named after the saint Trifon of Petsamo. Tsasouna was built on the 1950’s when a large group of people coming from the Petsamo area was inhabited on the Varejoki area. The Petsamo area, located between Norway and Soviet Union on the coast of the arctic ocean, was ceded to the Soviet Union after the second world war.
School of Varejoki village is no more used as school, but the village association of Varejoki has several activities in the school and on the area. The sports ground of the school is used as arena of the cross country skiing competitions in the winter.
The volume of the cache box is about 0,4 liter, so it can accommodate a few smaller travel bugs or geocoins. The cache is not located on the area of a prehistorical remain, nor in the stone age buildings or in the area of the church and the cemetery. Please avoid seeking this cache if there is an event in the church or in the school yard. To find this cache, you do not need to remove something or dig anywhere.
