Hike to Folhadal

This route offers everything what a Geocacher expects on Maidera: High mountains, swindle-exciting abysses, opulent Vegatation, dark tunnels and you always walk along the Levada.
Start is at the well-known Encumeada pass and the way leads you into the captivated Folhadal, a not yet so well-known valley above Sao Vicente. Parking is at the viewpoint at the Encumeada pass. Journey is possible also with bus or taxi. The way leads back to the Bar Encumeada. A yellow sign "Folhadal" points the way to the stairs to the Levada do Norte. We walk against the direction of flow along the broad Levadaway. After some time you reach the entrance of the approx. 550 meters long tunnel, which you have to cross. Now it is not far to the first station.

Stage 1:
N 32° 45.148 W 017° 02.272 in the year 2008 the concrete wall of the Levada was renewed and provided with new railing bars : how many bars are on the new Wall ? Number of bars = A



Stage 2:
N 32° 45.114 W 017° 02.365 a bridge crosses the Levada - how many of these bridges can you see here? Number of bridges = B

Stage 3:
N 32° 45.115 W 017° 02.394 here the Levada has an overflow, if too much water is in it. You can cross the Levada with Stepping Stones - How many Stepping Stones are in this overflow? Number of Stones = C



Now you can go to the Waterfall at N 32° 45.141 W 017° 02.424 to have a break and calculate the Final position:

Wanderung durchs Folhadal


Diese Tour bietet alles was der Geocacher auf Maidera erwartet: Hohe Berge, schwindelerregende Abgründe, üppige Vegatation, dunkle Tunnel und es geht immer an der Levada entlang.

Der Start ist am bekannten Encumeada Pass. Der Weg führt in das fast verwunschen wirkende Folhadal, ein touristisch noch nicht so bekanntes Tal oberhalb von Sao Vicente. Parken könnte Ihr am Aussichtspunkt am Encumeada Pass. Anreise ist auch mit Bus oder Taxi möglich. Der Weg führt zurück zur Bar Encumeada. Ein gelbes Schild "Folhadal" weist den Weg die Betontreppe zur Levada do Norte hinauf. Man wandert entgegen der Fließrichtung auf dem breiten betonierten Levadaweg entlang. Nach einiger Zeit erreicht man den Eingang zum ca. 550 Meter langen Tunnel, den es zu durchqueren gilt. Nun ist es nicht mehr weit bis zur ersten Station.

Station 1: Bei N 32° 45.148 W 017° 02.272 wurde im Jahre 2008 die Betonmauer der Levada erneuert und mit neuen Geländerstangen versehen: wie viele Stangen befinden sich auf dem neuen Mauerteil ? Anzahl = A

Station 2: Bei N 32° 45.114 W 017° 02.365 läuft das Wasser, eines die Levada querenden Baches, über eine Art Brücke - wie viele dieser Brücken kannst Du hier sehen ? Anzahl = B

Station 3: Bei N 32° 45.115 W 017° 02.394 hat die Levada einen Überlauf, falls zu viel Wasser darin ist. Diesen kannst Du mit Trittsteinen überqueren - wie viele Trittsteine sind in diesem Überlauf ? Anzahl = C

Wegpunkt 4: Nun könnte Ihr bis zum Wasserfall bei 32° 45.141 W 017° 02.424 weitergehen, eine Pause machen und die Koordinaten des Final berechnen:
