Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates for this cache are for the church and not for the final cache location. In order to find this you must first solve the clue which can be found in the immediate area.

The chancel of St Margaret’s, Herringfleet dates back to somewhere around 1080, after the building of the free standing round tower. The Norman chapel most likely replaced an old Saxon-Viking wooden building, and is yet another of the grade 1 listed churches in the area. It’s also open so well worth a quick stop inside.

A particular point of interest in the Church is the east window, which was put in by Henry Mussenden-Leathes, whose memorial you will find on the north chancel wall. The East Window contains glass of different periods from the late 14th century to the early, and from different buildings in Cologne. Henry Mussenden-Leathes was only 13 when he became a Gentleman Cadet in 1803 and at 15 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. In the Royal Horse Artillery, he fought in the Peninsular War (1807-1813) and at Waterloo, for which he received medals and clasps. In later years he settled in Lowestoft, opening his doors to sick fishermen from France who visited the port, earning him French Gold Medal of Honour First Class from the Emperor Napoleon III.

To find the cache you need to solve the following clue:

Take a walk around the church path but don't pass over this seaman.

November 1st A B C D

N.52.31.(A*2)(B+A) (D-A)

E.001.38.((C+D)-A)(C+A)((C-D-(B/D)

This series of Church Micro caches has a bonus at the end of it. In order to find this one you will need to collect the clues placed in each log book. The churches making up this series are:
North Cove
Barnby
Gisleham
Oulton
Somerleyton
Herringfleet
Ashby (Bonus Cache)

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
