Geocache Description:

The cache is situated just off Morgan’s Walk, a tree lined path leading up to the Brickendonbury Estate. The path is used locally by dog walkers but is otherwise fairly quiet. Cache is a small tupperware containing log book, pencil and several swaps.

This cache is hidden on a public footpath close to a view of the mansion of the Brickendonbury Estate (which our family used to call the ‘White House’!). The Brickendonbury estate, has a long history beginning in approx 500 AD when the hill site was claimed by the Saxon, Brica. The word ‘don’ (meaning hill) and the ‘bury’ were added in mediaeval times and indicate the site of a manor house: hence Brickendonbury, a fortified manor house standing on Brica's hill. During the 18th and early 19th centuries, the mansion belonged to the Morgan family who laid out the avenue of trees, known as Morgan’s Walk, which connects the mansion with Hertford. The estate (which has also briefly housed a school and was used for the rehearsal of several 2nd World War operations) is currently home to a research laboratory. You may spot the occasional muntjac deer during your visit.
