Das Strohner Märchen (manchmal auch Strohner Maarchen oder Määrchen geschrieben) steht – oder besser- liegt im Schatten des großen Bruders, dem Pulvermaar, das nur ein paar hundert Meter Luftlinie, getrennt durch den Römerberg, entfernt ist.
Vor gut 8.800 Jahren entstand im Zusammenhang mit dem Ausbruch des Römerberg-Schlackenvulkans auch das Strohner Märchen. Mit einem Durchmesser von gut 170m gehört es zu den kleinen Maaren. Sein Kraterwall ist schon vollständig abgetragen. Das Maar steht kurz vor der Verlandung (Typ "Finalmaar"), fast 10 m dicke Torfablagerungen eines noch intakten Moores bedecken den Kesselgrund. Rund 250 Pflanzenarten finden hier ihren Lebensraum, ein derartiger Pflanzenstandort ist einzigartig für das gesamte Rheinland. Neben seiner Bedeutung für die Geologie, die Paläobotanik und die Biowissenschaften, insbesondere für die Pflanzensoziologie, ist das Strohner Märchen mit Sicherheit ein exzellentes Refugium für unsere heimische Flora, dessen Schutzwürdigkeit außer Frage stehen sollte. Das Strohner Märchen gehört, zusammen mit dem Römerberg, zum Naturschutzgebiet Pulvermaar. Dieses Gebiet hat eine Größe von rund 113 Hektar.

In meiner Kindheit durfte man dieses Moor noch auf einem schmalen Pfad durchqueren, dies ist heute leider nicht mehr möglich.

1.: Schicke uns eine email mit der Erklärung, warum dieses Maar verlandet ist.
2.: Hänge Deinem log ein Photo an, das Dich mit GPS-Gerät vor dem Strohner Märchen zeigt (bitte nicht vor der Info-Tafel!) (aufgrund der neuen EC-Regeln optional, aber eigentlich Ehrensache).

The Strohner Märchen (sometimes also spelt Strohner Maarchen or Määrchen) is situated in the shade of its 'big brother', the Pulvermaar, which lies just a few hundred meters away from it, divided only by a hill, the Römerberg.
Some 8,800 years ago the Strohner Märchen was formed in connection with an eruption of the Römerberg, a cinder cone volcano. It is one of the smaller Maars (a Maar is a crater or crater-lake) since it is just about 170 meters in diameter. Its crater wall has been completely levelled by erosion. The Maar has almost dried up; it is covered by a layer of peat that is almost 10 meters thick (the marsh is still in good working order). About 250 species of plants inhabit the Maar, making it a natural habitat that is unique in the Rhineland. Besides its importance to geology, palaeobotany and the biosciences, especially to phytosociology, the Strohner Märchen provides an excellent refuge for our indigenous flora, which is definitely worth preserving. The Strohner Märchen, together with the Römerberg, is part of the Pulvermaar nature reserve, which covers about 113 hectares.

During my childhood it was still allowed to traverse the marsh, which, unfortunately, is no longer possible nowadays.

Alternatively you could leave it at N 50.07.527 E 006.55.784.
At N 50.07.414 E 006.55.763 you reach the edge of the marsh and can walk around it.
To log this cache you need to peform the the following tasks:
1.: Send us an email and explain, why this Maar almost dried up.
2.: Add a photo to your log showing you with your gps in front of the Strohner Märchen (Please, not in front of the info-board!)(optional due to the new EC approval guidelines, but of course also a question of honor for you).
