Geocache Description:

First contact "Holy Executive of the Holy Mountain Pilgrim's Bureau" in Thessaloniki to obtain a Diamonitirion (permit -visa) to enter the Athos peninsula and try to arrange an overnight stay in the monastery. I advise you to do this a few months before you want to go for the stash.
The local Ortohdox rules are very strict, women are not allowed on Athos and will never get a Diamonitirion.

The seven-storeyed monastery of Simonaspetra is the most daring building on the Holy Mountain and a marvel of monastic architecture.
It rises from a high cliff 250m above the sea on the south-west side of the peninsula.
It is dedicated to the Navity of Christ ( 25th December)
The monastery is founded by Saint Simon who lived on Mount Athos in the middle of the 13th century. The story goes that Simon, who lived as a hermit in this area, saw a light burning on the rocky ridge on Christmas night.
He interpeted this as a command to build a monastery on that spot.

The stash is located on the steep footpath from the arsanas ( the monasteries jetty) to the entrance, near to the monasteries vegetables garden.
