Geocache Description:

Bring your own pencil as I forgot to inculde one!

This cache is on the grounds of the Eagan Resource Center. The
Eagan Resource Center has a food shelf which is the largest in
Dakota County. There have been several Eagle Scout Service Projects
done here over the years. The sign for the Eagan Resource Center
("ERC") was built and installed as an Eagle Scout Project. It is
south of this cache. This project took the scout from Troop 449
over 300 hours. Another scout from Troop 449 spent about 100 hours
planning and holding an open house for the ERC. He also raked
leaves on the grounds.

Several Eagle Scout service projects related to the direct
mission of the ERC, namely getting food for Dakota County
residents. On the weekend before Thanksgiving, a 12 year old scout
organized a crew of scouts and adults. Rainbow Foods allowed him to
place volunteers at teh entrance to pass out notes regarding types
of food needed by the foodshelf. Another portion of the volunteers
were at the exit to collect any food customers may have purchased.
The end result was 10,000 lbs. of food for the food shelf. Near the
end of the food drive, they had 9700 lbs. of food. Rainbow kicked
in 200 lbs and the scout's Mom bought 100 lbs. of patatoes to make
it 10,000 pounds. This scout is pictured in the ERC's Feburary
Newsletter (see page 3) which is at the following link:http://www.eaganrc.org/assets/files/Food%20for%20Thought%20Feb%202010.pdf

This year another scout for Troop 449 has talked a local church
into allowing him to till some of their land for a vegetable
garden. The scout and other volunteers will be farming this summer.
The produce from the vegetable garden will be given to the food
shelf so that folks can enjoy fresh foodl.

The Executive Director of the ERC, Ms. Lisa Horn, granted
permission for this cache. We met and discussed placement. No need
to touch any landscaping to get to this cache. The cache is also
wheelchair accessible as the land from the parking lot to the cache
is level. The cache is also at wheel chair level.

This cache is part of the "Cache to Eagle" series highlighting
service projects conducted by Eagle Scout candidates. This series
highligts Eagle Scout service projects in Chief Black Dog District
of Northern Star Council, BSA. The Chief Black Dog District
includes scout troops in the communities of Apple Valley, Eagan,
and Burnsville. This particular Eagle Scout service project was
conducted in the August of 2009 by a Boy Scout from Troop 204..
