Yes! It Floods! Traditional Geocache

MN.Fruitcake: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Geocache Description:

A cache in the Minnesota River Valley.

We own the nearby cache "Will it flood". We placed that one, daring the river to flood it. This past spring, we retrieved that cache within hours of it being inaccessible due to flooding. The river was within 10 feet of the base of the beacon and only needed to go 1 foot higher to reach the beacon. We're not sure how much higher the river rose after that, but we're sure it was over 20 feet more.

After the river receded, while we were down replacing that cache, we decided to place another cache answering the "will it flood" question.

This would be a very easy cache to find if not for the cammo. Please replace as good as you found it.

Finding the trail head is a bit tricky especially in the winter. At the parking coordinates (N 44° 48.700 W 093° 25.336) there is a park sign along with a "Private Drive" sign. Stay off the drive. There is a path between the drive and the pond that is the park trail. In the winter this is not plowed, but you should see plenty of footprints.

During many springs and even the fall of 2010 this cache was flooded. After flooding, the area has lots of standing water and mud. While some might enjoy this type of terrain, for those who don't we suggest finding this in the fall and winter.

The StarTribune recently had a front page article (visit link) about organizations getting people closer to the Mississippi River and appreciating it's value to us. In a smaller way these caches do the same thing for the Minnesota River. Let's appreciate the wilderness that's so close to home!
