Vor Ort seht ihr einen großen Pott im Wald. Es handelt sich
dabei um einen Kugelgasbehälter.
Im Gegensatz zu den klassischen Gasometern, die mit sehr
geringem Druck arbeiten, sind Kugelgasbehälter für Drücke um die 10
bar ausgelegt, manche Modelle bis zu 20 bar. Daher passt trotz der
vergleichsweise geringen Größe mehr Gas in diese Behälter als in
die riesigen Gasometer. Die ersten Kugelgasbehälter gab es schon
vor dem zweiten Weltkrieg, in großen Stückzahlen wurden sie aber
erst seit den 1960er Jahren gebaut.
Sehr schön sehen kann man hier auch die Konstruktion aus
annähernd rechteckigen Platten, die gebogen und dann verschweißt
wurden. Durch die Kugelform kommt man mit sehr wenig Material aus,
dafür ist die Konstruktion nicht ganz einfach.

02.156 on the side of the road, from there a nice trail through the
wood leads you to the cache. Public transport: take tram line 9,
stop at Ostheim. There's no trail the last few meters to the cache,
expect some overgrowth and thorns in summer. It's not necessary to
pass any fences to get to the cache. Please re-hide the cache
carefully.
At the location you see a large pot in the wood. It's a
pressurized gas holder.
Unlike the classical gas holders (gasometer) which work with
very low pressure, these ball shaped gas holders are designed for
pressures of about 10 bar, some models up to 20 bar. Therefore,
even while they are relatively small, they can hold more gas than
the huge traditional gasometers. While first spheric gas holders
where built before the second world war, they where built in large
numbers starting in the 1960ties.
At this one you can nicely see the construction out of almost
rectangular steel plates, which have been bent and then welded- Due
to the ball shape they use very little steel, but the construction
is more difficult.
