Geocache Description:

The "Little Red Brick School House" was built in 1888 on the outskirts of Helena near the Old Montana Wesleyan College. The building was called the Silver Creek School at first, then College Place due to the nearby college. The Little Red School house, A Helena landmark, it is a monument to the last century, standing boldly with its privy at the side, in stark contrast to the thoroughly-modern Rossiter Elementary School up the road a ways. "The Little Red Schoolhouse" accommodated 9 to 20 children, and taught with a pull-your-ears kind of style. The school had a big flagpole and every morning and night boys had the duty of raising and lowering the flag each day. The pupils didn't have physical education. They probably didn't need it. Most walked--some about a mile or more to school--and spent noon hours and recesses playing baseball, kick-the-can, and fox and geese. The teacher, who taught all grades, was responsible for the lire and janitorial duties and usually took board and room at a nearby ranch house. The cache is a small container with room for trade items and should be an easy find. Cache was placed with permission of land owner.
