Toisen maailmasodan aikana Mäntyluoto toimi Saksan ilmavoimien, Luftwaffen, vesitasolentokoneiden huoltotukikohtana. Uniluodon maanpuoleisella rannalla, venelaitureilta nousevassa rinteessä sijaitsi saksalaisten rakennuttama suuri lentohalli. Kallon niemellä, Mäntykallon maanpuoleisilla kallioilla oli iso lentopetrolisäiliö, josta toimitettiin polttoainetta lentokoneille varsinaisen huolto- ja korjaushallin sijaitessa Uniluodon puolella.
Saksalaisten lähdettyä hallirakennus muutettiin sotavankileiriksi ja samalla se ympäröitiin korkealla piikkilanka-aidalla, sekä rakennuksen ikkunoihin asennettiin vahvat kalterit. Halliin majoitettuja sotavankeja käytettiin mm. työvoimana läheisessä satamassa.
Sodan jälkeen rakennuksesta tehtiin Pelastusarmeijan yömaja, jossa asuivat pääasiassa satamaan töihin tulleet ulkopaikkakuntalaiset. 1950 luvulla entisestä lentohallista tuli huolintayhtiön korjauspaja, jona se toimi yli kymmenen vuotta kunnes rakennus purettiin tarpeettomana. Kallossa sijainnut polttoainesäiliö oli sodan jälkeen käytössä aina -60 luvun alkuun asti, kunnes se purettiin koska säiliöstä puuttui vuodon varalta ympäröivä suojavalli, eikä se sen vuoksi enää täyttänyt uusia turvallisuusvaatimuksia.
Nykyään lentokonehallista ei ole jäljellä yhtään mitään, mutta lentopetrolisäiliön perustukset ovat edelleen Kallon eteläisillä kallioilla. Perustukset ovat noin 30 m kätköltä pohjoiseen, aivan puiden välistä näkyvän lipputangon vieressä.
Kesällä pääsee autolla melko lähelle kätköä, mutta talvella tiellä ei ole kunnossapitoa joten auto on syytä jättää kauemmaksi.
HUOM ! Kun käännyt pois päällystetyltä tieltä talviparkin kohdalla, niin aja oikeanpuoleista hiekkatietä, sillä vasemmanpuoleinen johtaa yksityiselle pihalle!
Vaikka kätkö on periaatteessa talvellakin löydettävissä, niin lumitilanteesta johtuen kätkölle pääseminen voi edellyttää hiihtämistä tai lumessa kahlaamista!
During Word War II German Air Force, Lufwaffe has a support base for float planes in Mäntyluoto. On the hillside over the piers right beside of eastern shoreline there was a huge hangar constructed by German troops. In the cape Kallo on top of Mäntykallo cliffs was a big tank for aviation petrol, which provided refueling whilst service and maintain premises were in Uniluoto side
After Germans drew their troops away, the hangar converted as a POW camp. High barbwire fences were erected around the building, and all window openings fitted with barred windows. The POWs whom were quartered in old hangar were used as a labor force in the harbour near by.
The building was changed after the war as a night shelter of The Salvation Army where out-of-town Dockers took lodging. In 1950s, old hangar converted once again, now as a service hall for local shipping agent. Hangar served as a service hall over ten years until it became useless and it demolished. The fuel tank in Cape Kallo was still in use from the end of war until early 1960s, when it demolished, too because it didn't fulfill new safety provisions, which required protection embankments around oil tanks in case of leakage.
In present day there is nothing left from the hangar but the concrete substructure of old kerosene tank still remains on the southern cliffs of Kallo. The old understructure is about 30 m North from the cache, right beside of the flagpole, which could be seen between the trees.
In the summer time is possible to drive pretty close of the cache. But in the wintertime there is no maintenance service and there might be plenty of snow on the road.
NOTE ! When you turn off from the main road in the winter parking place, take right dirt road, because left one ends to the private premises!
Although the cache is available during winter time, it may require skiing or wading in the snow for reaching it due to the snow situation.
