Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of internationally placed caches to honour renowned mountaineer Conrad Kain.

About this Cache Area...

Amongst the collections of the Windermere Valley Museum lies a permanent display of artefacts pertaining to mountain guide Conrad Kain, who lived in Wilmer just a few kilometres north of this location.

The museum is open during June – September, 10:00 – 4:00, every day. The Kain display is in the basement. On your way there, you’ll pass a treasure trove of history relating to other pioneering individuals and families of the Columbia Valley, including the great mapmaker, David Thompson who established a trading post 200 years ago in a location just off the current road to Wilmer.

Accounts of Kain reveal a thoroughly personable and professional guide. He had a stocky build with broad shoulders; his moustache and pipe were constant features. In camp and on the trail, he could be charming, harmlessly flirtatious and an entertaining storyteller. An expert axe man and cook with a great capacity for carrying weight, he was patient with novices and discreet in his treatment of overzealous climbers disinclined to appreciate natural splendours.

The cache is hidden outside of the buildings so can be found at any time. No Rocks need to be moved to find the magnetic container.
