This cache is located at historic Locust Grove, home to Samuel F. B. Morse. The entrance is from route 9 in Poughkeepsie and the trails are open from 8am to dusk. For more information try www.lgny.org
This cache is one of a 13 cache series celebrating my favorite television show, "Mystery Science Theater 3000." The first 12 in the series are stand alone letterbox hybrids that will contain a single number and letter combination that can be used to find the last, Bonus cache. You can do however many you'd like, but you'll need to do them all to get the lucky 13th. All caches are custom built and painted and contain a handmade stamp. I hope that you have as much fun finding them as I've had making them. As with all letterboxes, return the stamp to the container for all to use. Many of the containers could be a little fragile, so please take your time retrieving them.
"Mystery Science Theater 3000" or MST3k for short, aired from 1989-1999. It grew from a public access show on KTMA in Minnesota to a full production on both Comedy Central and the Sci-Fi Channel. Created by Joel Hodgson, it was a derivative of the old Buggs Bunny cartoons with silhouettes in front of the screen making fun of really bad movies. The show had a huge cult following during its' airing that still exists today thanks to the internet. As was suggested during many of the commercials, "Join us!"
This cache features Dr. Clayton Forrester played by Trace Beaulieu. Dr. Forrester is an evil, mad scientist bent on world domination. Pretty standard fair for mad scientists. Dr. F used two test subjects to prove his scheme that you can turn a person's brain to mush by showing them the worst films ever created. After that, he would control what was left of a shattered mind and thus, rule the world. During his years of trying, he fell short of his goal, but did provide for some of the best entertainment I know of. If the name sounds familiar, it was a lift from H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds."
This cache is located on the grounds of Locust Grove, the historical home of Samuel F. B. Morse. It goes to figure that a mad scientist with world domination through media would hide on the grounds of a real scientist who was instrumental in the creation of world communication. There are miles of trails and beautiful gardens to explore here along with a couple of other caches. This one is on the HEMLOCK TRAIL. It is literally ON the trail and there is no need to leave the trail to retrieve it. Satellite reception is not the best and there is a drop off nearby, so keep it in mind to stay on the trailand watch the kids. The Hemlock trail is the most primitive trail on the grounds, but it is very peaceful. Enjoy the grounds and stop in to the gift shop for some great local items.
There is a first to find prize of a non-activated trackable to go along with the hand painted FTF token.
