Geocache Description:

For those of us who either may not have a chance to attend on Ten Year event over the weekend or would just like to make it to make it to one on the actual anniversary of the first hide. Come celebrate 10 years of geocaching with us at Don Pablo's, May 3rd at 6:30 pm.

May 1, 2000 - an announcement was made that Selective Availability
would be lifted.

May 2, 2000 - at approximately midnight, EST Selective Availability
lifted and the accuracy of GPS technology was greatly
improved.

May 3, 2000 - Dave Ulmer hid a black bucket at N 45° 17.460 W 122° 24.800, filled with videos, books, software, and a slingshot as well as a logbook and pencil. He called it the First GPS Stash. He shared the waypoint of his "stash" with the online community on sci.geo.satellite-nav. Within three days two different people read about his stash on the Internet, used their own GPS receivers to find the container and shared their experiences online. The sport of geocaching was born!

This multi-event is part of worldwide celebration of 10 years of geocaching. Come prepared to swap caching stories, eat, trade travel bugs and geocoins and share in the tenth anniversary of geocaching. Don't forget to mention how many folks will attend in your log.

Who:
Why YOU, of course...whether you have one cache find or a thousand cache finds, please feel free to come join us for a small meet and greet.

When:
Monday, May 3rd from 6:30 until 8:00 pm (or so).

Where:
Don Pablo's
Laurel, MD
301-725-1993

Why:
Have dinner, meet geocachers new and old, talk geocaching, trade
travel bugs and geocoins and share in the fun of celebrating the 10th Anniversary of geocaching!

Extra things to keep in mind:
  • If you pick up a Travel Bug or trackable coin at one of the events, make sure you log it out so it doesn't show up in the events list. If a trackable sits as being listed in the event for a couple of months, the cache owner is the one that gets the e-mail from the TB owner(s).
  • Each person attending will be responsible for any costs incurred for food and drinks.

Congratulations to sfcchaz on his 2000th cache!
